Many nursing home residents need help feeding and nourishing themselves due to conditions like dementia, stroke, and swallowing disorders. This preventable problem can cause bone loss, depression, and weakened immune systems. In many cases, the victims of nursing home malnourishment and dehydration are some of the most vulnerable residents who can’t speak up for themselves before it’s too late. When that happens, malnourishment and dehydration can result in organ failure and even death. 

Like bed sores, malnourishment and dehydration are all too common at understaffed nursing homes. This form of nursing home neglect can also happen with poor or no training for staff and a lack of facility protocols regarding nourishment, especially for those who need this assistance.
